Biden, Sanders Call For ‘Environmental Justice’

By Lisa Michaels

Former Vice President Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders rarely agree on political matters, but they seem to be in unison one particular issue: the environment.

As Biden continues to release more and more information regarding his platform, supporters and critics could not help but notice that he is beginning to sound a lot like Sanders.

“Every American has the right to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and live without fear of exposure to toxic waste,” the Biden-Sanders unity platform released this week read.

“And all Americans should benefit from the clean energy economy— especially those who have been left out and left behind for generations.

“Democrats will create an environmental justice fund to make historic investments across federal agencies aimed at eliminating legacy pollution, which disproportionately causes illness and premature death in communities of color, low-income communities, and indigenous communities, including protecting children’s health by replacing lead service lines and remediating lead paint in homes and schools; remediating Superfund and other contaminated sites; and ensuring housing and schools have adequate plumbing and safe wastewater disposal systems.”

Although the duo agrees on environmental issues, they still seem some ways away on economic reform and criminal justice.

Her childhood naivety about politics was stripped away piece by piece with every passing year as she gained a deeper understanding of why nothing ever gets accomplished by our elected leaders. Her primary areas of focus are media bias, corruption and regulations. Oh, and lobbying - obviously.
